Clare Fine Gael Senator Tony Mulcahy received confirmation today that Clare County Council has been allocated €1,635,000 towards the maintenance and management of its National Road network during 2013.

The funding scheme, which is being administered by the National Roads Authority, is separate to the allocations made for regional and local roads. Senator Mulcahy said the regional and local roads allocations for 2012 will be announced by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport later this week.

Senator Mulcahy said the National Roads allocation covers a range of maintenance and important projects across the County during the year.

“The allocation to County Clare also includes some provisions for accident remedial works and traffic calming measures which are important components in the development of the local road infrastructure. This includes a 520,000 euro upgrade of the surface at Rineen on the main Miltown Malbay to Lahinch road, the provision of pedestrian crossings at Main Street in Ennistymon and a 73,000 euro allocation towards winter maintenance of Clare’s national road network,” stated Senator Mulcahy.

Just over half or 868,000 of the €1,635,000 allocated to Clare County Council is being targeted at improvement works across the county during 2013.  Safety improvements are earmarked for the N67 Cross Roads with the L6091/L6092 at Carnaun, Kilrush (25,000 euro), N67/L2009 Cross Roads at Circular Road, Kilkee (32,000 euro), N67 bend at Carrowdotla North near Moneypoint (31,000), Pedestrian Crossings at Main Street, Ennistymon (30,000), and improvement works along the N68 at Caherea (5,000). Pavement and other minor works are scheduled to be carried out at Rineen (520,000), repairs to the road at Cloonboy (55,000 euro) and repair works at Annagh (70,000).  An additional 99,950 euro has been allocated towards the Local Authority Support (Improvements) scheme.

Meanwhile, 277,000 euro and 458,000 euro is being allocated to maintenance projects along National Primary and National Secondary routes respectively. A further 31,482 euro is going towards the Local Authority Support (Maintenance) 2013 CE and Local Authority Support (Winter Maintenance) 2013 CE schemes.
